Juvenile delinquency proceedings are authorized by Article 3 of the Family Court Act, and are filed against children ages 12 to 17 who commit acts which would be crimes if committed by an adult.
If the child is being charged as an adult it is not heard in Family Court.

A dispositional hearing is the hearing to determine the final outcome of the case. It only occurs if there has been a finding of facts against the respondent.
